Guides / Website vs Facebook

Do I need a website if I have a Facebook page?

If you are booked solid on word of mouth, maybe not yet. If you want strangers to find you on Google and call, then yes. Here is the honest breakdown.

When you might not need one

If every job comes from repeat customers and referrals, and your schedule stays full, a website will not change much this month. We would rather tell you that than sell you something.

Even then, the people you get referred to usually look you up before they call. If they find nothing, some of them will move on.

What a Facebook page can't do

Facebook is a fine place to post your work. It just was not built to win you new customers from a search.

It is weak on Google

When someone searches for a service in their town, Google mostly shows Maps listings and websites. A Facebook page gives Google little to work with about your services and towns.

You don't own it

Facebook decides the layout, the rules and who sees your posts. If your account has a problem, your whole presence goes with it.

It buries the important stuff

Your best work scrolls away under new posts. A website keeps your services, area, reviews and phone number in one place.

Not everyone is on it

Some customers don't use Facebook, and pop-ups asking them to log in get in the way of reaching you.

What a website does that Facebook doesn't

A website gives Google real pages about what you do and where you do it. That is how you show up when someone types the job and the town, like "water heater replacement near me".

It also backs up your Google Business Profile. Your listing is what puts you on Maps, and your website gives customers and Google one more place to confirm your details.

And it looks like a real business. Someone comparing two companies at 9 at night will lean toward the one with a clean site, real photos and a number they can tap.

Keep the Facebook page

This is not either/or. Keep posting your jobs. Link the Facebook page to your website and your website back to it, so everything points to the same business.

If you are ready for a site, see small business web design or websites for trade companies. Wondering what it runs? Here is how much a website costs.

Frequently asked questions

Is a Facebook page enough for a small business?

It can be for a business that runs on referrals and stays booked. If you want new customers from Google, it usually is not enough on its own.

Can I show up on Google without a website?

Yes, on Maps, with a Google Business Profile. A website gives Google more to work with and gives customers somewhere to go after they find you.

Is a website worth it for a one-person business?

It often is, since a few extra jobs a month can cover the cost. If you are already turning work away, it can wait.

Do you build the website before I pay anything?

Yes. That is how Vexion Labs works. We build a polished version of the website ready before your call and show it to you on a real URL. There is no deposit and no contract up front. You decide after you have seen it.
